The East Irondequoit Central School District has announced the hiring of Morgan Che Baird as the new Lancer varsity softball coach.
Baird, a native of Tennessee, has been playing and coaching softball for over 20 years. She most recently created the Roc City Royalty fastpitch travel organization last year. Previously, Morgan played collegiately at Coastal Carolina University and coached at Agnes Scott College as well as Elite Travel Fastpitch in Georgia before coming to Rochester.
"We are thrilled to have Morgan join the Lancer Family" said East Irondequoit Athletic Director Kyle Vacanti. "Based on her accomplishments as a player and a coach, Morgan will, without a doubt, motivate, challenge and inspire our players. We are confident that the combination of her coaching skills and our grit will translate to an exciting brand of softball."
"I honored to have been chosen to lead, guide and support the athletes of Eastridge" said Baird. "The school and town are very special to me. While I'm a southern belle, I spent many weekends in Irondequoit (my husband is an Eastridge alum) before we fully made the move from Atlanta, Georgia."
"This year is unusual, but it's only the beginning for our program. My staff and I are positive skills will improve, confidence will be boosted and we will have a great time. With tryouts right around the corner, we are so excited to start shaping the teams. Bring your best attitude and 'all out' effort to tryouts and let's get to work."
There will be an introductory meeting with "Coach Morgan" on Friday, April 9th at 5:30pm. Softball players should contact the athletic office for the link. This is a great opportunity to meet the coach and get the season started for all the returning players.
The entire Lancer Family welcome Baird and her family to the program and are eagerly anticipating an exciting 2021 season.
